Malpais and the neighboring beaches of Santa Teresa and Hermosa are some of the most beautiful spots in Costa Rica and maybe in the entire world! The miles of white-sand beaches or hidden rocky coves are only part of the beauty of this magic area on the southern point of the Nicoya peninsula, close to Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve.

In recent years this region became famous for its primary activity: surfing! This is especially because there are great conditions almost all year long! You can choose between consistent beach or point breaks and both beginners and experts can find the perfect wave.

Lately another kind of wave, a “health wave”, has developed and led to a wide range of yoga and pilates classes being offered from the area’s many studios. Massage and body-care are readily available at beachfront spas where you can also deeply detoxify your body with fasting or a raw food cleanse.

You could enjoy snorkeling and scuba diving at Tortuga Island, boat fishing with local guides, sunset horseback riding or zip lining through the Mal Pais canopy with amazing ocean views. If you would like a less structured experience, ATV rental is a fun and easy way to explore nature independently.

For those who prefer the nightlife, gourmet restaurants and an open-air dance club offer fun under the starry sky.
